Setting the record straight

Dear Supporter,

Our campaign continues to move into high gear as we spread our message about how my private sector, public service and community experience will help me, along with your support and guidance, to be the effective and tenacious advocate you deserve in the Senate.

Recently, the State Ballot Commission issued a ruling on an inquiry I made on the eligibility of fellow candidate Eric Lesser. I thought you should hear from me directly about my motivations and to clear the air on a false statement made by Mr. Lesser as a result of the ruling.

First, I sought the ruling to clarify his eligibility in fairness to the voters and all of the candidates in the race. The basis of the inquiry was to address the State Constitutional provision for Senate candidates having “been an inhabitant of this Commonwealth five years at least immediately preceding his election and at the time of his election” with Mr. Lesser having lived a substantial portion of that period in Washington DC.

Mr. Lesser in a public statement this week said I “admitted under oath… that this was politically motivated.” This is blatantly false.  This misrepresentation has the same tenor and tone we so frequently hear in a dysfunctional Washington D.C.

I need your help to bring our message of leadership, real world experience and on-the-ground results to every corner of this District. We are in a battle with a Washington insider and the big money that brings. I’m ready for the challenge and I look forward to your continued support in bringing our case to the voters.

Thank you,
